MY FIRST EXPERIENCE AS VOLUNTEER IN NEW ORLEANS-US

This was my first experience as volunteer. Julie who is the coordinator for the oficce of Community Service in the school, was planing this trip since the first day of class. I went with a group of faculties and graduated students.

We spent one week, The city of New Orleans is very different of other cities in US. So for the firts time I saw people drinking and smoking a lot in US.

All the week we were building two houses, we worked in two groups. I learnt a lot,for the first time I could use some words which we don't use frequently such as "hammer", "nail", or "saw". This city was fluted in 2005, so many people decided to leave the city. That's why many houses are not rebuilt. And also I saw the big bridge over the lake "pontchartrain".

During the "thanksgiving" holiday, we went to the "soup kitchen" of the city. After that, we had good time, dining the big deliciuos turkey. It was my first time of "Thanksgiving" in whole my life. Also it was good to take a walk around the streets of the city. And we ate some seafood, it was too delicious.

Last of all, it was good to go as volunteer. You not only go as volunteer also you can everything as a tourist.

MI PRIMERA EXPERIENCIA COMO VOLUNTARIO EN NEW ORLEANS-EE.UU.

Esta fue una de mis primeras experiencias como voluntario. Julie la coordinadora del laoficina de Servicio a la Comunidad, hizo planes casi desde el inicio de las clases del primer trimestre. Fuimos con un grupo de docentes y exestudiantes del Colegio. Llegamos el dia sabado anterior y regresamos este sabado pasado. estuvimos por una semana. Durante esta semana, por primera vez he visto personas ebrias en EEUU en New Orleans, es una ciudad casi como La Paz de Bolivia. Muchas personas son afros y mucha gente fuma y las fiestas o bares hay por todo los lados. El lunes empezamos con el trabajo de voluntariado construindo casas, en si estabamos areglando una casa construida. Fue muy lindo para mi porque pude usar palabras que solo habia aprendido en una leccion. Palabras como "hammer" "saw" o "nail" casi estas palabras pertenecen al campo semantico de la construccion pero no los usaba. Nos dividimos en dos grupos, un grupo estaba pintando una casa y mi grupo estabamos amueblando. El huracan Katrina lo inundo la ciudad en 2005, hasta ahora muchos no o decidieron reconstruir. Hay un puente muy grande sobre un lago. El dia jueves en el feriado nacional de "Thanksgiving" prepararon una cena grande, lo pase por primera vez un feriado del da de la gracia. Con el grupo fuimos a pasear por las calles de la ciudad. Fuimos a cenar comida deliciosa del mar, como mariscos y camarrones. En Conclusion fue muy lindo ir como voluntario, cuando vas de voluntario no solo trabajas tambien vas como turista
